How to Use Lists in Nexus

Using an uploaded list as the starting point for your data pulls is one of the most powerful and credit-efficient ways to work in Nexus. Your list becomes the boundary of the entire query. allowing you to narrow the scope to focus exclusively on Exchange data related to the voters your program cares about most.

Before you start

Lists are uploaded via Manage Lists in the V1 Customer App (see “How to Format and Upload a CSV File”). Once uploaded, your list appears in the Select a list dropdown at the top of the Set Scope screen in Nexus.

The Two List Modes

  • Narrow my list — Returns Exchange data only for people on your list who have matching records. Use this to enrich an existing universe with what the broader movement knows about those specific voters. Nothing outside your list is returned, which keeps results focused and credit costs proportional to your program.
  • Find people not on my list — Returns Exchange data for people not on your list who match your other criteria. Use this to expand your universe beyond who your organization has already identified.

Example: Finding Support IDs for a Membership List

Organizations have used the Narrow mode to learn how many people on a membership list have been identified as supportive of Democratic and progressive candidates by the ecosystem:

  1. Upload the membership list via Manage Lists.
  2. Click “New! Get Data.” Select the list on Set Scope and choose Narrow my list. Set geography and date range.
  3. Select Survey Questions, then Candidate. Leave Candidate Name at All, set Question Type to Support, and select the response values of interest.
  4. Use Select Responses to see what’s available for the list before committing, then review the credit estimate on Summary & Confirm and activate.

Keep your lists current

Nexus uses the list as it exists when you run the query. If your universe changes significantly — new registrants, moved voters, post-primary consolidation — re-upload a fresh version before your next pull.
